blog

I wrote one page of my rough draft this weekend and continued my study of Borges and his works. After taking a look into Borges’ past, I found some interesting information for the biography page. Who knew that Borges and his father both suffered from blindness? His past and interesting life has influenced his writing over the years. Many of his short stories and poems (probably his essays too, but I haven’t looked at them) are based on events in his life with a mysterious, sometimes magical, twist. I have read many of his poems and 2 of his short stories. The project is going well.

blog #3?

I am using Jorge Luis Borges Selected Poems for one of my print sources. I have found multiple Internet sources that pass all of Ms. Voss' tests. There are many books about Borges in the library. I like one of his poems called My Whole Life. The more I read by Borges, the stranger I think he is. I will be working hard over the weekend on my rough draft and the vocab test.

I have decided to do my project on Jorge Luis Borges. I want to use two or maybe three of his poems. One of the poems I really like is The Streets. It is a description about where he grew up in Buenos Aires. I picked Borges because there is alot of solid information about him (websites and books). I like his material and what we have previously read about him in class. His biographical information is easy to find; criticism is also very accessible.

At the bottom of the website I found this information:
"Source: Contemporary Authors Online, Thomson Gale, 2006.
Source Database: Contemporary Authors Online"
The site lists the author, and although it did not comment on what level of education he has received, the author seems appropriate The material is thorough and not too technical. The site is directed towards an educated person, but he or she does not require any previous knowledge of the subject. I found no spelling or grammatical errors in the site. It appeares to be edited and the writer has an in depth knowledge of the material. I did not find any bias: much of the information is biographical and I checked the facts with other sites and they are accurate. The criticism found on the web page is balanced. The information is current; the date at the bottom is 2006. The links on the top of page are all accessible and appropriate. They contain important information.
Yes, if I decide to use Borges as my author, I will most likely use this site in my project. It passes all the requirements for a safe and accurate site. It also includes useful, interesting information.

I investigated MICDS's online databases for Latin American short stories and poems. Through my searches, I repeadedly saw Jorge Luis Borges' name. The short story we read of his during the year, and the information that Rob told the class about Borges interested me. There was alot about his works, criticism, and biographical information. As of right now, I would like to pursue Borges, but I need to investigate his short stories and poems more thouroughly before I can make a decision on what direction I'm headed.
